What should I do with dead birds on my layer farm?
I lose one or two hens most days. Right now the workers throw them behind the shed. Is that a problem?

Yes, that is a real risk. Dead birds attract dogs, rats, flies and wild birds, which carry disease back into your sheds and to your neighbours' farms.
Do this instead:
- Collect dead birds at least twice a day.
- Bury them deep with lime, or burn them, well away from the sheds, wells and ponds.
- Never throw them into a pond, field or rubbish heap.
- Wash hands and change boots after handling them.
Also watch the numbers. One or two a day in a large flock can be normal, but call your vet at once if deaths suddenly rise, or you see swollen heads, blue combs, breathing trouble or twisted necks. Suspected bird flu must be reported to the Upazila Livestock Office.
Recording daily deaths makes a rise obvious on the first day.
