How often should I deworm my cattle?

I have 10 cattle, a mix of cows, heifers and calves. How often should each group be dewormed, and does the timing matter with vaccines?

    A common schedule:

    - Calves: first deworming within the first month of life, then as your vet advises.
    - Adult cattle: every 3–4 months.
    - Always about 7–10 days before a vaccine. Worms weaken the immune system, so a wormy animal responds poorly to the vaccine.

    A few tips:
    - Dose by weight. Guessing too low wastes the treatment and helps worms become resistant. A measuring tape gives a good weight estimate if you have no scale.
    - Change the medicine group about once a year so the worms don't become resistant.
    - Deworm new animals during their quarantine, before they join the herd.

Ask your vet which products work best in your area, and record every dose so you know when the next one is due.
